Women and Men’s Cross Country team win CCU Invitational
This past Friday, September 14, 2007 Coastal Carolina University (CCU) held the Coastal Carolina XC Invitational home meet at Quail Creek golf course in Conway, SC. Three collegiate teams (Mount Olive, UNC Wilmington, and USC Beaufort) were invited to attend the CCU home meet.
The meet opened up with the girls and boys high school (Jacksonville, Carolina Forest, Waccamaw, Georgetown, North Myrtle Beach) races which started around 5:00pm and 6:00pm, respectively followed by women and men college races which started around 6:30pm and 7:00pm, respectively. Despite of the weather conditions, which it was a little bit humid and wet, both high school and college races performed well. According to Myrtle Beach Online, Kaitlyn Davis of Jacksonville won the girls race at 20’:07”, while Amilio Carter of Carolina Forest won the boys race at 18’:09”. Amilio Carter is a senior of Carolina Forest and he is a talented runner with high aspiration. His PR (personal best) on 5000m is 17’: 30”(cross country). But because of the course conditions, which it has been said to be a slow course he competed well. Douglas Currie, former CCU runner won the 8000m races with a time of 26’:05” followed by Jamie McCarty of Coastal Carolina University with a time of 26’:13”, while on the women side Diana Jepchirchir of CCU won the 5000m race with a time of 18’:26” followed by Felicitas Mensing of CCU with a time of 18’:19”. Both, the CCU women and men’s cross country teams won the home meet.
